While you’re hooked up to Windows, search the unit for folders named MACOSX. Right-click on it, Properties/Tools (a tab)/Error-Checking. Look for the Clip listed as a disk drive.

On the unit go to Settings/System Settings/USB Mode and make it MSC (which is the mode the Mac will use anyway).Ĭonnect to a Windows computer. One thing that often fixes it is to run Windows error-checking, assuming you have a friend with a PC. The “not enough space” message often means there’s a corrupt file on the internal memory. But Hidden Cleaner seems the cleanest way to go.Īlso, before trying the solution, recommended that you clean your player up from those ghost files–easiest way to do that is to re-format it under the player’s System settings (but note: this will erase your content on the Clip–transfer anything you ant to save to your computer first, if possible). If you do a search on Hidden Cleaner or KopyMac (a similar software, but no longer available) here (use the search box at the top right) you’ll learn more about this issue and other ways to handle it, including using the “Mac OS teminal emulator” (or something like that).

The easiest way to handle it seems to be to use software to transfer from a Mac, such as Hidden Cleaner (freeware), which handles that situation. “ghost” files that can chocke a device like a camera, audio player, etc.

Basically, as I understand it, the Mac, when transfering files, also leaves behind little admin. If you do a search here, you’ll find various posts about the little games that a Mac plays with non-Mac devices.

How can I make this work and how can I download music from another source? I’m not entirely technically inept, but I’m definitely not an uber savvy tech person either. I want to make this work because I like the way the device works and sounds and I want to avoid iPods and iTunes and get out from under Apple’s thumb. I’ve tried resetting to factory defaults. Several times I have tried deleting all the music and recopying with other music but I never have better luck gettin more music on the device.Īfter fiddling around with it some more, the Clip+ says "Not enough space for music DB - but there isn’t any music on the device. I went to troubleshooting and got the impression it had something to do with iTunes limiting the number of times a song could be copied to other devices, but I’m not sure that’s right. Although the music folder appeared to contain over 150 songs, only about 40 would play. First, I have never been able to get the Clip+ to accept more than about 40 songs. I am not sure whether part of the problem is that I use Mac rather than PC.

Not everyone needs an iPod touch or nano if they're just listening to music on the go.I purchased my SanDisk Clip+ a few months ago and am utterly frustrated with it. I like that the clip is now non-removable as I lost the original Clip's clip and was not able to replace it.Overall, this is a great gadget even ignoring its value. And of course, as its name suggests, the player is designed to be clipped onto a pocket or belt and operated by feel.

Radio reception is quite good but not a feature I plan to use frequently. Battery life is OK as long as you aren't running the screen too much. But the player integrates well with most of the Windows software I tried including WMP and Winamp. And the Clip seems pretty slow with its file transfers, unfortunately. Songs on the card are integrated with songs in the internal memory, something that past MP3 players have neglected to do which gets very annoying very fast.Honestly, after having Google Music, transferring songs via USB seems pretty archaic. I put in a 16 gig SD card and instantly tripled the storage. The UI is responsive and gets out of your way and the sound quality is delightfully flat and drives headphones pretty well! Storage is important to me because I don't only want to take 8 gigs of music to me. This device is essentially the same as the original clip but with a full-color screen, improved buttons, and a micro USB instead of mini USB, which has become the new standard for most mobile devices. The value is pretty much unbeatable here, as many have mentioned, but I love it more because it's focused on the music. I'm going abroad and not bringing my Galaxy Nexus for fear of theft so I decided to buy a new MP3 player to bring along to supplement my dumbphone. I owned this device's predecessor, the original Clip, which I loved for its no-frills but feature-rich style.
